Method
How a record is checked
Every entry carries a status, a verification level and a check method, and they mean three different things. Keeping them apart is what stops one failed request from becoming a rumour that a site is dead.
Status
Whether the site answered when it was looked at: active, intermittent, not confirmed or closed. “Not confirmed” is the default for anything that could not be reached.
Verification
How far the description has been checked: checked, partly checked or not checked. A description is written by a person, not inferred from a domain name.
Check method
How the site was reached: a plain request, a request blocked by anti-bot or geo rules, or content read through a browser-like request. Blocked does not mean gone.
Dates
When the dates change
The date on an entry is the last time it was visited. Re-checking a site updates that date. It does not move the entry unless the list is sorted by date.
Description basis
Where the description comes from
Descriptions are written after reading the site itself. None is inferred from a name, a domain or a search result. Where a site could not be read, the entry says so and the description stays short.
Sources
How a site was found
Each entry records how it was found: a seed list, another site's links, a search, or a suggestion. That source is shown on the entry, with a link where one exists.
Boundaries
What this is not
- Individual works — films, series, episodes. Those belong to the sites this one points at.
- Video or audio hosting. Nothing is streamed here.
- Reading or translating. The reading and translation sites are listed; their content is not copied.
- Social networking. There is no account, no posting, no feed, no comment box.
- Recommendation algorithms. Ordering is editorial, stated, and never personal.
Contributions
Suggesting a site
A GL website that belongs here is worth sending in. The most useful suggestions include:
- the address of the site, and what language it is in
- what a reader actually gets there — a database, an archive, a review column, a forum
- which couples or series it covers, if you know
- whether it is still being maintained, and when you last saw it working
Every record here has been visited by a person, on a date, and described in their own words.
