What this index is
An index, not a publisher
The GL fandom did not wait for anyone to build its websites. Fan archives went up first, then translation sites, then the databases, then the reviews, then the forums, each one solving a problem the last one had left open. The result is a scattered, uneven and genuinely useful network — and finding your way into it is the hard part.
WhereIsGL exists for that one job. It catalogues the websites, describes what is actually inside each one, connects the ones that belong together, and gives you the address. It hosts no GL content of its own.

Inclusion
The standard a site has to meet
- 01 It is a real, reachable website — not a social account, a group chat, a playlist or a dead link.
- 02 Its subject is GL: series, pairings, fandom, or the culture around them.
- 03 It does something a reader can use: a database, an archive, a schedule, a conversation, a translation.
- 04 Someone looked at it, on a date, and wrote the description in their own words.
- 05 Where a fact could not be confirmed, the entry says so instead of guessing.
Boundaries
What this is deliberately not
- Individual works — films, series, episodes. Those belong to the sites we point at, not to us.
- Video or audio hosting. WhereIsGL never streams anything.
- Reading or translating. The reading and translation sites are catalogued; their content is not copied here.
- Social networking. There is no account, no posting, no feed, no comment box here.
- Recommendation algorithms. Ordering is curated, stated and reversible — never personal.
Method
How a record is checked
Every entry carries a status, a verification level and a check method, and they mean three different things. Keeping them apart is what stops a directory from quietly turning one failed request into a rumour that a site is dead.
Status
Whether the site was working when we looked: active, intermittent, not confirmed or closed. "Not confirmed" is the honest default for anything we could not reach.
Verification
How much we trust our own description: checked, partly checked or not checked. A description is written by a person, not inferred from a domain name.
Check method
How we reached it: a plain request, a request that was blocked by anti-bot or geo rules, or content read through a browser-like request. Blocked does not mean gone.
Each entry also shows the date it was last checked and where we found it. When a fact cannot be confirmed, the record says so rather than filling the gap.
Images and copyright
No scraped pictures
The covers in this directory are generated. Each one is a plate built from the entry's resource type, its catalogue number and its initials — no third-party artwork is copied, hot-linked or stored. We do not reproduce series stills, magazine covers or promotional images, because those belong to the people who made them.
Text descriptions are our own and written in plain language. Where we quote a site's own wording, it is marked as a quotation and kept short. Every entry links back to the site it describes, and the people running those sites keep all rights to their own work.

Suggesting a site
If you know a GL website that belongs here — and it is not a work, a stream, a reading site or a social account — it is worth sending in. The most useful suggestions include:
- the address of the site, and what language it is in
- what a reader actually gets there — a database, an archive, a review column, a forum
- which couples or series it covers, if you know
- whether it is still being maintained, and when you last saw it working
- anything the site itself says about who runs it
This index is curated rather than open, so a submission is read before it is added. Every record here has been visited by a person, on a date, and described in our own words.
The short version
WhereIsGL is a directory of independent websites serving GL fans. It hosts no GL content, runs no user accounts, and recommends nothing algorithmically. It is an index, and the sites it points to are the point.
